First question - are you on city water or do you have a private well on your property? If you have a private well, please send us a copy of your most recent water analysis or get your well water tested so we can make a recommendation based upon the contaminants that are actually in your well water.
If you have chlorinated city water you should consider one of our Home Master Reverse Osmosis Systems for your drinking water, and a whole house conditioner/softener to filter and treat your whole house water supply. Be sure to review our selection of faucets for the Home Master system as well. If your city uses chloramine as opposed to chlorine then you will need either the IRON or ULTRA RO system for your drinking water; or if you decide to use a whole house system to pre-treat the water for chloramine, then you will need to get the optional KDF85/catalytic carbon filter option. Contact your water provider to learn if your city uses chloramine.
The Nelsen SP3 Scale Removal System will remove sediment, chlorine and chemicals, and will condition the water hardness so that it no longer forms scale or bonds with glass or metal. It does not remove calcium or fluoride from the water. The Home Master Softener will remove calcium from the water and put salt in its place.
Both systems are effective at treating hard water problems but produce different feeling water. The Nelsen SP3 water feels like natural spring water, whereas the Home Master Softener water feels either silky or slippery depending on you. Some people will use both -- the Nelsen SP3 system on their main water so that all water is treated, and the Home Master Softener just before the hot water heater so just the hot water is salt softened.
The Nelsen SP3 system also filters out chlorine and other chemicals while the Home Master Softener does not. Using the Home Master Filter for whole house filtration in conjunction with the Home Master Softener will produce a similar result to that of the Nelsen SP3 System. However, when using any salt softener you will need to use the Home Master reverse osmosis system to remove the salt for your drinking water.
